Walker, Pay Attention to the Moon
for Walker Ward, who asked why we should
Whatever, Walker, you may choose to do
With the goodness and grace that life has given you;
Whatever you learn about the universe
When Pharisees expect you to rehearse
Their tired creeds or urge you— even worse!—
To believe that you are richer for your purse;
And when your injured soul begins to nurse
A grievance like a self-inflicted curse;
Then follow thou the phases of the moon!
Let your heart sing its every rise and fall!
Feel how it wanes and waxes in your chest,
And from the fractal symphony attune
Your soul to the liquid silver notes that call
And sparkle on the sea: How you are blessed!
